South Carolina to Sends Phil McMillan and Lance J. Preston to National Best of the Best Competition
(July 2, 2008) — More than 100 participants vied for the top spots in South Carolina’s 2008 Technician-Inspector Competition and Skills Training, but only two will be heading to Tulsa, Okla., for the "America’s Best" competition in September.

In the Inspector’s category, Phil McMillan of Socastee School Bus Shop took first place. Meanwhile While Lance J. Preston of Florence School Bus Shop took first in the technician’s category. Second and third place in the inspector’s categories went to Michael J. Smart of Berkley School Bus Shop and Jeremy Martin of Spartanburg School Bus Shop, respectively. Alan Wenzel of Summerville School Bus Shop finished in second place in the technician's competition with Carl Wayne Morris of Converse School Bus Shop finishing third.
All competitors in the 2008 America’s Best national competition will face a written evaluation of their knowledge. Technicians must also complete a diagnostics test, and inspectors will have to perform a live inspection. Workshops for both technician’s and inspectors will be integrated into the September 10-12, 2008 contest held at Hydrotex and sponsored by NAPT, Bus Parts Warehouse and Zonar Systems.
