Speer and Bliss Take Top School Bus Titles

TULSA, Okla. (Sept. 15, 2008) — Tim Speer and Matt Bliss won the top school bus inspector and school bus technician titles last week at the fifth annual NAPT America’s Best School Bus Technician and Inspector skills and training competition.

Speer of Yadkin Board of Education in Yadkinville, N.C., located outside of  Winston-Salem, and Bliss of First Student in Trenton, N.J., represented their states in the competition hosted by Hydrotex. Robert Williams of Spring ISD in Spring, Texas, and Ryan Texer of Colorado Springs, Colo., District #11 finished second and third, respectively, in the inspector competition. Harvey Bamford of Centralia Chehalis Public Transportation Co-op in Centralia, Wa., and Michael Lagoda of West Seneca Central Schools in West Seneca, N.Y., finished second and third, respectively, in the technician category.

All competitors faced written and hands-on tests, and they also attended a number of workshops on school bus components and systems and toured the Hydrotex plant. Additional co-sponsors Bus Parts Warehouse and Zonar systems provided scholarships to send contest winners to the NAPT Conference and Trade Show held in Myrtle Beach. S.C. next month.
