Not happy with watching children nervously wait for the school bus on the side of the road, a Ohio man builds something to keep them safe.
In Canal Winchester, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, Wendell Collier watched as children waited for their school bus while cars quickly made their up and down the busy street. Instead of just chalking it up as someone else's problem, Collier did something about it. He built a waiting area at the end of his driveway.
"People who live in the community should do things for the children," said Collier in a interview with the Columbus Dispatch.
The new and improved bus stop consists of a bench and some landscaping set back behind the sidewalk. There are about a half dozen students currently using it and more are interested. The simple gesture has made him a hero in the neighborhood and is sending a message to communities everything that student safety involves everyone.
