One in five Minnesota contrators responding to a Minnesota School Bus Operators Association survey said it is solely the driver’s responsibility to walk the bus aisle at the end of routes, and no electronic reminder system or placards are utilized. Several members said one con of not having an electric child-check system is that drivers can forget to perform the required job function. Another barrier is cost, especially for retrofits. Meanwhile, two-thirds of contractor company members said they employ either a placard system, electronic child check system or both throughout their entire fleet.
