The Florida Department of Education announced it is partnering with the Florida Departments of Transportation, Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Florida Highway Patrol to present the first of two Webinars on the state's School Bus Safety Week. The first Webinar is scheduled for July 14 with a repeat session to be announced for July 22. Florida celebrates School Bus Safety Week Oct. 18-22 in conjunction with the national recognition managed by NAPT. This year’s theme is “Stop On Red, Kids Ahead!” that focuses on the dangers of motorists passing stopped school buses while loading and unloading students. The multi-agency Florida committee charged with School Bus Safety Week activities has developed several programs, events and materials to help school districts and other local agencies throughout the state to promote school bus safety. "The Webinars will explain these resources and where you can find them to assist you with establishing a dynamic program for School Bus Safety Week in your districts," said Jamie S. Warrington, a transportation specialist in the Florida DOE's School Transportation Management Section. School bus operators in the state were asked to forward this invitation to others within their district who may have an interest in activities for School Bus Safety Week. These groups may include parent groups, schools, local law enforcement agencies, Community Traffic Safety Teams and others. |
