The Ontario School Bus Association updated its members on the policy for keeping daily vehicle inspection rules for non-school bus vehicles. Here's what the communique said in the association's newsletter: "From time to time we’re asked by operators how the daily vehicle inspection rules (Regulation 199/07) apply to a bus operator’s service vehicles. Operators sometimes convert an old bus into a service truck by painting it and removing the passenger seats. At this point, the vehicle cease to be a “bus” (it has less that 10 passenger seats) and it becomes a “truck” which is subject to the truck daily inspection rules if the RGW or GVW exceeds 4,500 kg. Service trucks above 4,500 kg must be inspected daily using Schedule 1 so the OSBA daily logbook cannot be used for these vehicles. Truck inspection daily logbooks books can be ordered from the Ontario Trucking Association. Service trucks that are ½ -tons are typically under the CVOR weight threshold of 4,500 kg so they are exempt from the daily inspection regulation. |
