N.J. Senate Transportation Committee OK’s 12 School Bus Bills

The New Jersey Senate Transportation Committee approved 12 important school bus safety bills on July 26. The prospects for eventual passage continue to look positive. The bills propose to improve bus safety and accident response, make bus drivers and companies more accountable, and require all students to carry IDs at all school-sponsored, off-campus activities.

NYAPT Praises Passage of Driver Testing Law

The New York Association for Pupil Transportation celebrated the passage of legislation that will increase and enhance random testing of school bus drivers for the presence of drugs or alcohol. Specifically, NYAPT announced that the legislature has passed S.2587E/A.208E, sponsored by Senator Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) and Assembly Member Donna Lupardo (D-Binghamton).

Bill to Delay Calif. School Bus Child-Reminders on Hold

A hold has been placed on California State Senate legislation that would extend the compliance date for school districts to install a “Child Safety Alert System” on all school buses, which would prompt school bus drivers to walk the length of the school bus at the end of routes to look for students.
