Burns, Meslin Publish New Blog That Discusses Student Transportation Challenges

Student transportation experts Peggy A. Burns, Esq., and Pete Meslin have teamed to produce a new blog that aims to supplement traditional school district in-service training for bus drivers, monitors and other transportation staff.

Burns, a school attorney and owner of Education Compliance Group, said the blog”Clearance Lights” is a new take on training that she and Meslin have provided school districts and state associations as well as national conferences such as the NAPT Summit, which starts this week in Memphis, Tenn., and the annual STN EXPO.  She added that the blog will share ideas that can “stimulate identification of ideas, problem areas, and solutions among school transportation professionals.”

“(Pete and I) do that all the time when we chat, and (we) are just bold enough to think that it might be of interest to others,” she told School Transportation News.

Meslin is the director of transportation for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District in Southern California and, like Burns, a frequent contributor to STN magazine.

“We frequently enjoy invigorating conversations with each other. This blog offers us the opportunity to expand those conversations with fresh perspectives from our friends,” he said. “(Observations) just don’t fit in an article or in-service. ClearanceLights.net allows us to give our feelings a voice. It also allows us to use technology to have larger discussions around these items.”

Observations and perspectives already started on the new blog include “Being new and ignorant,” and “Trust, but verify.”

“Such upcoming posts as ‘Fail your way to Leadership,’ ‘Perseverance – A Message to Garcia,’ and ‘The truth is stranger than fiction’ will, we hope, provoke your own thinking and push against the apparent limitations of your professional experiences,” Burns added.
