StudentConnect Expands Reach Into California and Texas

StudentConnect secured its first school-district customer in California this week and its first such client in Texas two weeks prior. Both five-year agreements will allow school officials to use the company’s student transportation technology at no cost.

“We continue to expand our reach in the school transportation space,” said Kayode Aladesuyi, chairman and CEO of its parent company, East Coast Diversified Corporation (ECDC). “Helping school districts improve the quality of safety in their transportation plan while saving money is a key objective for StudentConnect.”

StudentConnect has already been deployed in a few California schools, with more agreements in the works at Antelope Valley Union High, Rancho Christian School, William S. Hart Union High and Los Angeles Unified School District, according to its website.

This technology uses proprietary wireless communication between GPS and RFID to detect student entry and exit from school buses as well as other events during the trip, and to provide real-time notification to parents and school officials. While all message alerts are initially set up as a standard part of the application to be received on parents’ mobile devices, individuals can create a login password to access the online StudentConnect platform to disable or enable which alerts they would like to receive via cellphone.

Now, the company also provides free routing software to participating schools. The system is available free of charge because it is funded through advertising dollars from corporations and small businesses that support the safety and education of students.

“Texas is a big state with tremendous opportunity for us,” Aladesuyi continued. “The requests for StudentConnect continue to grow. We are deploying in as many schools as soon as we can and as fast as we can.”

ECDC is a holding corporation with a diversified group of technology companies offering technology for logistics and asset management, school transportation safety and social media applications.
