2012 STN EXPO: Discovering Opportunities

The 19th Annual STN EXPO seeks to provide some answers, some opportunities for student transporters to learn about and implement additional efficiencies into their operation and to put their collective heads together to identify a new, better path. About the STN EXPO

STN EXPO: Discovering Opportunities
July 21-25, 2012

It's no secret that the sluggish economy, to put it lightly, continues to negatively impact state education and local school districts nationwide. Meanwhile, rising costs of materials and other resources are driving up vehicle, component and other costs each year. What is the industry to do?

The 19th Annual STN EXPO seeks to provide some answers, some opportunities for student transporters to learn about and implement additional efficiencies into their operation and to put their collective heads together to identify a new, better path. The keys to success lie in the industry's hands; embracing new ways to do things is imperative. Student transportation must make a better case to not only help it live and see another day but to grow. Tens of millions of students and their parents rely on this vital education-related service.

The 2012 STN EXPO will once again be held in Reno, Nev., this time July 21-25. Approximately four dozen workshops, presentations and hands-on demonstrations will be presented in the areas of Business Administration, Head Start, Maintenance, Safey & Security, and Special Needs transportation. Stay tuned to further announcements in early 2012 on our educational curriculum as well as our one-day trade show on July 24.

North American school buses are an iconic presence on our roads. We entrust our most precious resource, our children, to these vehicles and their capable drivers. We've made these vehicles safe through careful engineering, but dangerous drivers still pass them illegally, sometimes with serious consequences. Examining school bus markings in the light of human perception and cognition suggests ways of redesigning the safety markings on the back of our school buses to change driver behavior and reduce illegal passing.
