According to the New Hampshire School Transportation Association the 2009 report on the annual school bus inspection program was recently released. The program is administered by the N.H. Department of Safety’s Division of Motor Vehicle’s Pupil Transportation. A total of 2,255 buses were inspected, 52 percent conventional school buses, 20 percent transit buses, 14 percent special needs buses and 14 percent multi-purpose vehicles. There was a 92 percent pass rate for the entire program, which was a two percent increase from 2008. Over 50 fleets had a 100 percent passing rate. Of the many reasons cited for buses that failed inspection, the largest number of violations was for faulty brakes, followed by the buzzer on the emergency door/window not working, clearance lamps not working properly and tires not meeting the standards. Copies of the report are available at the Pupil Transportation Division office at the Division of Motor Vehicle office in Concord. |
