LOS ANGELES — For some Los Angeles Unified School District students who have had to ride in highly polluting, smog-producing school buses built in 1987 or earlier, the air is about the get a lot cleaner. Delta Liquid Energy, a local propane marketer, recently announced a contract for an additional 90 propane-powered Blue Bird Vision school buses, which will bring the district’s total to 162 propane buses.
“This is just an extension of our Healthy Breathing Initiative, which is to replace all older diesel buses with alternative fueled vehicles,” said LAUSD Director of Transportation Enrique Boull’t in a recent statement.
Delta Liquid Energy will provide LAUSD with three fueling locations, each equipped with two 2,000-gallon tanks.
“We are proud to offer the children and ‘future’ of L.A. the promise of cleaner air and greater foreign fuel independence with this contract,” added Ted Olsen, Delta’s alternative fuel manager.
