The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced today that IC Bus will recall more than 3,000 conventional school buses because of faulty battery cables that could cause a fire in the engine compartment.
The IC Bus CE models affected by the NHTSA recall were manufactured between Jan. 3, 2003 and April 5, 2004. The company said chaffing between the battery and/or engine ECM clean power cables and the parking brake cable could create an electrical short. Parent company Navistar is expected to customers by March 31 that dealers will inspect the battery and engine cables and will replace any necessary parts free of charge.
A similar recall is also in effect for several IC Bus CE model commercial buses manufactured during the same time period.
