Daimler Trucks North America announced a recall last week of 4,447 buses with intake air grid heaters that may short circuit.
The NHTSA recall campaign affects model year 2007 through 2011 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 and HDX school buses and Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) B2 106 CH buses manufactured from Sept. 5, 2006 through June 30 of this year. The buses are equipped with MBE900 EPA04 and EPA07 model engines and MBE4000 EPA07 model engines.
Daimler said the short may cause the intake air grid heater to fail due to excessive internal temperatures. This could lead to a vehicle fire. The company said it will notify customers and dealers of the fix, and Detroit Diesel Corporation will make repairs free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by late September.
