Atlantic Express announced this week that it anticipates a new partnership with driver safety and efficiency company will result in "significant" cost savings for school districts customers.

The school bus contractor, one of the largest in the nation, will install GreenRoad 360 in its entire school bus fleet to gather real-time feedback on driving decisions and performance. The U.S. Department of Transportation said that driving decisions are responsible for 90 percent of all motor vehicle crashes. According to GreenRoad, improving driver behavior is the single biggest variable to improving performance and safety.

Atlantic Express drivers and fleet managers will receive real-time, comprehensive feedback, online reporting, analysis and coaching on their abilities, maneuvers and patterns. The goal, according to both companies, is to positively impacts both conscious and unconscious driving behaviors – the key to creating more fuel-efficient and safer drivers.

“Parents put a tremendous amount of trust in us to transport their children safely to and from school every day and GreenRoad’s innovative technology will help us ensure we have the safest and most efficient drivers on the road,” said Domenic Gatto, CEO and president of Atlantic Express. “Periodic classes and training sessions have been the standard tool to date to enhance driver performance. But with GreenRoad, we can go beyond this to offer our drivers real-time feedback that allows them to constantly make improvements to their performance – the best way to guarantee each driver is at the top of his or her game, every second of the day.”

Atlantic Express also said that GreenRoad will reduce fuel consumption and emissions – making their buses among the most eco-friendly on the road. GreenRoad said its typical customer sees up to a 50 percent reduction in accident costs and a 10 percent reduction in fuel-consumption and emissions.

GreenRoad has won the Mass Transit Top Tech Innovators of 2010, Connected World’s 2010 Innovation Award and Frost & Sullivan’s 2010 Best Practices Award for Green Excellence.
