IC Bus announced it will recall slightly more than 2,000 school buses to replace a fuel valve cap that may fall off.

The NHTSA recall campaign affects model-year 2011 and 2012 IC conventional CE Series and Type B BE Series school buses manufactured from May 27 of last year through March 8 of this year. IC said the 2,026 school buses being recalled are equipped with MaxxForce 7 diesel engines.

The fuel valve cap could become unattached, which could allow air to be drawn into the fuel system. This could result in an engine hard start, no start or a vehicle stall, the latter potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix will be performed free of charge. Navistar, IC's parent company, will notify vehicle owners and dealers of the recall, which is expected to begin later next month.
