Daimler Trucks North America, the parent company of Thomas Built Buses, announced that it is recalling 890 school buses equipped with defective Braun wheelchair lifts.
The NHTSA recall campaign affects model year 2007-2011 Saf-T-Liner EF and HDX transit-style buses as well as the Minotour Type A school bus and Saf-T-Liner C2 conventional. Braun previously announced a recall of its Century-2 and Vista-2 wheelchair lifts because the roll stop latches on the outer barrier may become bent or misaligned.
On these lifts, a wheelchair occupant may "defeat" or override the insufficiently latched roll stop. If the lift is in the elevated position, the wheelchair occupant could fall and sustain injury.
Daimler said repairs will be made free of charge by authorized Braun dealers.
