Evenflo announced a recall of certain "Big Kid" car seats that were sold despite only being intended for retail display. The car seats did not contain instructions or a product registration card.
NHTSA recall campaign 12C003000 affects model numbers are 30911173AD, 3091967AD, 30911118AD, and 30911120D. The estimated 151 car seats were shipped between Aug. 6 and Sept. 18 of this year.
Evenflo said the seats fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems" because they were originally manufactured solely for purposes of retail display and not to be sold at retail. Without the instruction manual the seat may be used improperly.
Evenflo added that, should the owner not file a registration with the child seat manufacturer due to lack of information on how to do so, they may not be notified of a safety recall. Either condition puts the child at an increased risk of possible injury in the event of a crash.
None of the affected units were sold at retail stores.
