Mike Erhlich of Western Dubuque Schools won the Iowa Best of the Best Technician's Training & Competition last week to earn a trip to the NAPT Summit this fall, where he will participate in the national event.

The 11th Annual America's Best School Bus Inspector and Best School Bus Technician Training and Skills Competition is scheduled for November in Kansas City, Mo.

Iowa's sixth annual qualifying event took place June 12 at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. The event was sponsored by Blue Bird dealer School Bus Sales of Waterloo.

Erhlich, a bus technician at Western Dubuque, was one of 16 participants from 11 different schools.

"It was a great effort by all of the participants and by the committee in bringing it all together this year and making it such a successful event," said Max Christensen, the state director of student transportation with the Iowa Department of Education.

In addition to Western Dubuque, the other participating schools were: Adel-Desoto-Minburn, Allamakee, Benton, Dallas Center-Grimes, Johnston, Nevada, Norwalk, South Winneshiek, Southeast Polk and Washington.
