Two N.Y. School Bus Drivers Get Probation for Transporting Students While Drunk PDF Print E-mail

Today in Rochester, New York, a plea deal was announced for a former school bus driver who admitted driving a bus full of students with a blood alcohol level of 0.09 — more than twice the legal limit for a CDL holder. Another case in Lyons, also located in Upstate New York, ended with the former bus driver receiving “interim probation” in exchange for pleading guilty to felony DWI.

NHTSA Rule Eyes Roof-Crush Standards for Motorcoaches PDF Print E-mail

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed a new rule to enhance rollover structural integrity of motorcoaches and "over-the-road" buses in the event of a crash to improve roof strength. The proposal comes on the heels of a new requirement implemented last year to require lap-shoulder seat belts on motorcoaches to improve passenger safety.

School buses traverse all types of landscapes and in doing so encounter all kinds of dangers. The National Association for Pupil Transportation and School Bus Safety Company are partnering to reduce the risk of what can happen when these buses encounter downed power lines, especially as weather incidents seem to have increased.
