Accidents speak louder than words. The same day West Virginia education officials and law enforcement announced the new crackdown on motorists who illegally pass school buses, an 8-year-old elementary student was struck and injured after exiting her school bus. The Nicholas County girl suffered a broken leg and foot, and required surgery.

Illegal school bus passings are no joke, and one Ohio judge was not laughing when he ordered a woman who passed a school bus by driving on the sidewalk, to wear a sign in public that says she’s an idiot.

EPA Pilot Rebate Program Open for Private Contractors Makes School Bus Purchases Easier PDF Print E-mail

The National School Transportation Association alerted its members today on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new pilot school bus rebate program, which for the first time makes funds available directly to private contractors under contract to local public school districts.

Air Quality District Awards $34.2M to Replace, Clean Up Diesel School Buses PDF Print E-mail

The South Coast Air Quality Management District awarded $32.9 million to Southern California school districts on Friday to help them purchase clean-burning buses to replace older diesel school buses in their fleets. The AQMD also awarded $1.3 million to enable districts to retrofit their diesel school buses with particulate matter traps that reduce diesel emissions.
