PENSACOLA, Fla. — Schools will be in session soon, which means children will be loading and unloading on school buses everywhere. This month, School Training Solutions (STS) is taking the opportunity to boost safety awareness about school bus stops by providing a variety of information via social media.
According to a National School Bus Loading and Unloading Survey in 2006-2007, over the last four decades, 1,151 deaths of school children have occurred during bus loading and unloading. Of those, 38 percent have been caused by a vehicle passing the bus illegally.
"We want to do our part to keep this statistic as low as possible," says Patrick Willi, director of School Training Solutions. "If one commuter reads one of our posts or sees one of our graphics and slows down or pays more attention when they see a school bus or children at a bus stop, we've made a positive difference."
School bus drivers are trained to do everything possible to keep children safe while being transported to and from school. School Training Solutions would like to reach out to the community to make sure each and every person on the road does his/her part to keep the road safe as well. This starts with awareness.
