The National Association for School Transportation announced that Kyle Martin, owner of school transportation consulting firm TransPar Group and a former president of Mayflower Contract Services, is the latest member of the Hall of Fame.
Martin was named the 48th NSTA Hall of Fame inductee during Tuesday evening’s annual Award Reception and Banquet in Indianapolis for 35 years of excellence in furthering the school transportation industry. Martin left Mayflower when the company was acquired by Laidlaw Transit in 1995 before co-founding TransPar Group with Ruth Newby later that same year.
One of Martin’s fellow Hall members, past NSTA President Barry Stock, was awarded the Meritorious Service Award along with outgoing NSTA Executive Director Ronna Weber, who announced she's stepping down at the end of this month. Stock and Weber were celebrated for displaying “unparalleled vision, support and leadership toward improving pupil transportation safety and promotion of NSTA and the school bus industry.”
NSTA also honored several contractor members with Green School Bus Fleet Certifications for their adoption of alternative fuels for a cleaner environment. Those honored were: local Durham School Services operations in Arizona, California, Connecticut, and Wisconsin; First Student operations in California, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington; Sinton-Landmark in Vaughn, Ontario; Mid Columbia Bus of Rainer, Oregon; and Huntington Coach in New York.
School Bus Fleet magazine also named John Corrado of Suffolk Transportation Service in Bay Shore, New York as its Contractor of the Year.
Thomas Built Buses sponsored the banquet. The NSTA Annual Meeting and Convention concludes Wednesday.
