Study: District Bus Crashes Double the Guideline

A recent study by School Bus Consultants revealed that Knox County school bus crashes are double what the performance guideline is, reported the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The study, ordered by the district at the end of last year, also stated that the district should hire a safety manager, underfunds the transportation department, and that nearly one in every six of its buses is too old, according to industry standards, and noted the district is "on a dangerous cliff."

"We don't want to downplay the significance of this," Russ Oaks, the school system's chief operating officer said of the report's findings. "This is something we've got to look at."
