WARRENVILLE, ILL. — Taking an industry lead, IC Bus has released information concerning its 2010 models and their EPA-mandated engine change. The company will be using Advanced EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) to meet the stringent 2010 EPA emissions requirements.

“We’re excited about our progress in bringing to market some of the cleanest, most energy-efficient buses ever produced,” said IC Bus President John McKinney in a recent statement. “Through more efficient sourcing and manufacturing operations we have worked diligently to minimize the design and development costs so that 2010 engine prices are as manageable as possible for our customers.”

IC trademarked MaxxForce engines will be using EGR to adhere to the EPA’s 2010 standards. Other bus manufacturers have chosen to employ urea-based Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which utilizes urea and aftertreatment equipment located beneath the bus body.

The 2010 buses overall price will increase by $6,000. This pricing increase affects all IC Bus school bus models — the BE, CE, FE and RE Series — and the HC and LC Series commercial models.
