Daimler Trucks North America reported to NHTSA last week that school bus warning lights and crossing stop arms may malfunction on certain Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 models due to a malfuctioning reed switch that controls the air-operated front entrance door.

Daimler said the problem relates to Saf-T-Liner C2s built from May 10, 2007 through Jan. 8 of this year. The malfunctioning warning lights could put student passengers in harm's way while loading and unloading the school bus.

The recall was thought to effet 7,430 units.

By the second week of May, Daimler said it expected to notify owners of Thomas Built Buses that repairs would be performed free of charge at local dealerships. The NHTSA recall campaign ID is 10V100000, and Daimler's recall campaign number is FL-574.
