Bridgestone America announced it would recall certain R192 bus and truck tires with faulty sidewall wear indicators that could lose tire pressure. Nearly 4,100 units of size 275/70R22.5 tires are thought to be affected by the NHTSA recall campaign. The indicators, or dimples, are used by technicians to monitor sidewall wear. The problem centers on the specified depth of the dimples, as they may expose the body ply cord. Bridgestone said this could, over time, result in deterioration of the body ply cord, creating the potential for air loss at the dimple's location. The worry is that drivers could lose control of the vehicle and crash. Bridgestone said it will begin replacing the tires free of charge next month. |
