The American School Bus Council is distributing template press releases and how-to guides to school districts nationwide in preparation for Love the Bus 2010, an industry initiative to recognize school bus safety. The first Love the Bus campaigns were held in 2007 and included students giving Valentine’s Day cards to their bus drivers and schools holding special drive recognition events. It has evolved to include school bus safety presentations given by schools to the general public and school bus training and exercises. The major points ASBC strives to make through Love the Bus is to not only advocate school bus vehicle safety and the specialized training of drivers but also the environmental, traffic congestion mitigation and academic benefits of the yellow bus. School transportation professionals are encouraged to customize a press release template for distribution to local media for covering any Love the Bus activities in February. ASBC also made available a how-to guide to help states, school districts and school bus companies plan public education efforts. Any organizations interested in hold events in February are asked to coordinate with ASBC by contacting representative This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
