New SafeGuard seat solves capacity issues related to school bus seat belts
The public demand for seat belts — namely three-point lap/shoulder restraints — in school buses is growing. And with the recent passage of a Texas bill that requires all school buses purchased on or after Sept. 1, 2010, be equipped with three-point lap/shoulder restraints, demand is clearly having an effect on how other state legislators are voting.

NHTSA public meeting seeks new technologies, answers to tough questions for improving student safety
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A comprehensive Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that could come as early as this fall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was about the only sure thing at the end of a dizzying, muggy day in the nation’s capital, one that saw passionate debate over the future of school bus occupant safety.

State becomes second in nation requiring lap/shoulder restraints and first for all charter vehicles used in school activity trips
AUSTIN, Texas — Two high school athletes killed and 12 others injured in a March 2006 charter bus crash prompted their school district to require three-point occupant restraints, and state legislators followed suit, but funding remained a question.

What began as a reaction to the tragic pre-Thanksgiving crash that took the lives of four Huntsville students, has now come to an overt conclusion on the need and usefulness of seat belts on school buses with recommendations designed to push the issue before federal regulators.
