NAPT announced two more student transporters recently completed the NAPT Special Needs Transportation (SNT) Training, bringing the national total to seven. Carol A.B. Bowes, a certified specialist of pupil transportation at Person County Schools in Roxboro, N.C., and Josielyn Rainey works for Prince William County Public Schools in Manassas, Va. The NAPT Special Needs Transportation training program provides numerous opportunities for transportation personnel serving students with disabilities to access educational opportunities at both local and national conferences and to gain national recognition for their efforts. The core curriculum consists of 24 hours of education in a variety of different settings, including a school bus roadeo and a trade show of school transportation products and services. The core curriculum is supplemented by eight hours of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series (PDS) Program. The first three student transportation professionals to obtain the NAPT Special Needs endorsement last fall at the NAPT Summit in Portland, Ore., were Renee Davis of Spring (Texas) ISD, Nancy Kessler of Katy (Texas) ISD and Marisa Weisinger, of Innovative Transportation Solutions in Houston. In March, Dr. Linda Bluth, NAPT's president and the compliance coordinator at the Maryland State Department of Education, also obtained her endorsement, and was followed by Daniel Higbie of Mid City Transit in Middletown, N.Y., earlier this month. |
