School Bus Survives Minneapolis Bridge Collapse Aug. 1 began for 52 summer camp students with the anticipation of a day spent swimming with friends. For them and their charter school bus, it ended amidst broken concrete slabs, twisted steel and a ride home they, the city of Minneapolis and the nation won’t soon forget. With the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge spanning the Mississippi River, eight of the students joined approximately 90 others driving over that fateful connection between downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul with injuries requiring a hospital visit. Thankfully, none of the children were among the half dozen dead or missing. |
