Table 7 presents the estimate of the number of passengers with incapacitating injuries (A-type) from NASS-GES data for school buses, distributed by location of impact on the bus. An incapcitating injury (A) is any injury, other than a fatal injury, which prevents the injured person from walking, driving, or normally continuing the activities the person was capable of performing before the injury occured. Included injuries are: severe lacerations, broken or distorted limbs, skull or chest injuries, unconsciousness at or when taken from the crash scene, unable to leave the crash scene without assitance, complaint of pain, and others. Excluded are: momentary unconsciousness, and others.
