Jacob's Law
 
Jacob's Law: Law enacted in South Carolina outlawing passenger vans that do not conform to school bus construction standards, from providing to-and-from or activity-trip school transportation service. Named in honor of 6 year-old Jacob Strebler who was fatally injured in 1994 in a collision involving a truck and the nonconforming van he was riding in.
The Strebler Case: Lead attorney Richard Gergel lays out the case against the use of non-conforming vans in school transportation service. Gergel represented the Strebler family in a wrongful death lawsuit brought in the fatality of six-year-old Jacob Strebler. Gergel made this presentation at the STN Conference in 1998.
