Independent Lab Confirms ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L Natural Gas Engine Will Meet, Exceed 2007 EPA Emission Standards
MCKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 13, 2005) -- Emission Solutions, Inc. (ESI) announces that tests conducted at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio (SwRI), an EPA-recognized testing facility, confirms ESI's Phoenix NG 7.6L spark-ignited natural gas engine will meet and exceed 2007 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated engine emission requirements and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) low NOx & NMHC standards for medium heavy-duty engines. ESI has submitted the independent lab results along with all other requirements to both EPA and CARB with full certification expected by the end of October, 2005. Field performance verifications are commencing immediately, with full production beginning by year-end.
SwRI's test results confirm that the ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L achieved unprecedented emissions levels of NOx of 0.513 g/bhp-hr, NMHC of .059 g/bhp-hr and particulate matter (PM) of 0.009 g/bhp-hr while delivering the impressive performance of 820 foot pounds (ft-lb) of torque at 1347 RPM and 265 hp at 1915 RPM.
"We are extremely pleased with both the emission levels and performance characteristics of the ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L," said Jim Burkhart, Chief Technology Officer and VP of Engineering. "These test results show that we can achieve the reduced emissions required by EPA and CARB while still delivering the superior performance that customers expect." In announcing the SwRI report results, Jim Moore, ESI's President added "We see tremendous potential for the ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L as a dedicated natural gas replacement engine in short-haul transportation and distribution applications such as school buses, food and beverage fleets and in the municipal work truck sector where this engine is so well suited."
The ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L
The ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L is a dedicated natural gas OEM engine that utilizes a very reliable and popular diesel engine as its base platform. ESI manufactures and re-designs the previous older dirty diesel engine into natural gas operation utilizing patented technology, cryogenically treated components, a state-of-the-art Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and a fly-by-wire electronic throttle body for improved performance and durability. The ECU provides ignition, fuel control and employs "look ahead" adaptive learn technology to optimize engine performance and emissions across the full spectrum of load conditions.
Under ESI's unique engine exchange program, the older existing diesel engine is replaced with a new ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L, which has an identical footprint. ESI's program includes fuel storage system installation (CNG or LNG), engine commissioning, two (2) year parts and labor warranty and a full complement of optional maintenance services. Fleet operations and maintenance professionals familiar and comfortable with the existing diesel platform find the transition to the ESI Phoenix NG 7.6L an easy one as there are no special tools or extensive training requirements.
