BUSTOPS Routing System New Version, BUSTOPS 2005 Released

ARLINGTON , Va. (Dec. 9, 2005) - MicroAnalytics is pleased to announce release of a new version - BUSTOPS 2005 Student Transportation Management System. Developed with extensive user input, BUSTOPS 2005 features a Pick Lists Wizard for advanced data analysis and many enhancements to make the software more efficient, customizable and user-friendly.

The new Pick Lists Wizard guides users quickly and easily through several steps to perform powerful, streamlined analysis on data and routes, automatically creating multiple lists and counts of students, stops, boundaries, graphics and more!

MicroAnalytics has designed new features to enhance the user experience of the BUSTOPS 2005 routing software including: enhanced GIS map graphics, increased ease of data entry with intelligent data selection lists, and a new Boundary Snap feature for easily drawing new boundaries by dragging a desired boundary line to a road. The new Boundary Snap feature uses intelligent logic to anticipate the user's intended boundary placement, and automatically fills in the "gaps", the finished boundary thus conforming to the shape of the road.

The new Boundary Placement Line Generator for student eligibility coding empowers users to efficiently set up school boundaries including up to 4 attendance area boundaries and 2 sub-areas, walk boundaries, and overlapping boundaries for multiple schools. The new program analyzes all the boundaries and shows a multi-color preview map of how the students will be affected, street by street.

BUSTOPS users are in for a treat with many improvements to the efficiency of operating the software. Handling multiple routes for one student, including daycare and joint custody addresses, BUSTOPS 2005 is comprehensive with all student route information for multiple addresses and multiple days viewed on one screen, and the ensuing alternate day rider counts reflected throughout route analysis and optimization. Automated transfer tracking in BUSTOPS 2005 shows students at transfer stops in addition to the original pickup stop. The BUSTOPS 2005 Smart Updating of Driving Directions responds to data changes by providing meaningful messages as to what changes have been made, automatically updating driving directions with minimal changes to the current route.

"A key theme with this development project was to make it easier for users to do some of the more complicated things that the program can do" says Ken Mitchell, President of MicroAnalytics. "We want to increase the confidence of users in accessing the power of BUSTOPS data analysis and routing - if possible to make every user a "power user" - and I think we have made a big step in that direction."

Tom Jenkins, Acting Assistant Manager of Transportation, Kennett Consolidated School District in Pennsylvania says "We are using the new program BUSTOPS 2005, and we really like it. The program has a lot of small changes that really make it even more user friendly." Kennett Consolidated School District serves a diverse rural-suburban populace in Southern Chester County, West of Philadelphia.

The BUSTOPS 2005 development project benefited from extensive user input. During early stages of the three year programming effort, user "wish lists" were compiled at periodic user meetings. One year before release, several BUSTOPS users began testing a prototype of the new program. Finally, a pre-release version was used live for six months by a number of school districts ranging in size from a few buses to several hundred buses operating over areas from a few square miles to a thousand squares miles. This user input and testing has helped to provide a software product that meets the need of all users urban or rural, large and small.

"We are very pleased with the new features in BUSTOPS 2005, most of which were requested by clients to increase their productivity. It has easier tracking of transfers and more automated driving directions. BUSTOPS 2005 is more time efficient and has more features for evaluating cost effectiveness in today's economy," said Yvonne Strange, MicroAnalytics Manager of Support Services.
