Revolutionary Technology Joins Mobile Digital Video Solutions Family

Seon Design Inc., a leading manufacturer of video surveillance systems specifically for mobile applications such as school buses, today unveiled the Seon Explorer^TM Digital Video Recording System, a high-performance system driven by the super-efficient MPEG4 compression technology.

Designed by Seon engineers and manufactured in Seon's facility in Coquitlam, BC, the Seon Explorer TM DVR has the ability to capture higher quality recordings for a longer period of time than systems running on other technologies. This ability makes it more convenient and time efficient particularly for schools that are very security conscious.

"When it comes to large fleets of school buses, the significance of the extra capacity of the Seon Explorer TM system becomes quite meaningful," says Terry Akiyama, Vice President of Sales. "The way MPEG4 compression technology works," says Ian Radziejewski, President of Seon Design Inc., "the Seon Explorer TM is able to store recordings of a higher picture quality in the same amount of hard disk space than on a recorder running on a different technology. Moreover, the Seon Explorer TM which is available in a 4-channel system, is also able to record each camera at 30 frames per second, the highest possible for standard video. And for even better efficiency, each camera can be set at its own frame rate. This is especially important when higher quality pictures are required for areas where incidents tend to occur more frequently."

Similar to the Seon Trooper TM DVR system, the Seon Explorer TM also features hot-swappable hard drives. This means that the hard drive can be swapped with another while the DVR is powered. This is useful when the vehicle has to continue its scheduled course after an incident had happened and the recording of the incident is required for play back without delay. With this hot-swappable feature, users do not have to go without recordings for an extended period of time.

In addition to allowing video downloads directly from the hard drive, the Seon Explorer TM  also features a USB thumb-drive for video transfer.  To make things even easier, the Seon Explorer TM also comes with a one-touch button that allows users to download video with a single key-press.

Ethernet functionality that allows connection to a Local Area Network (LAN) or the Internet is yet another special aspect of the Seon Explorer TM , as is the optional GPS receiver which records vehicle route and location. Other Plus features on the Explorer are Vehicle Information Recording, which displays up to 5 signals on-screen, providing valuable information in case of accidents or unforeseen incidents. The signals are brake, warning, left turn, right turn and stop arm for school buses, and wheelchair lift or similar signals in the case of transit buses, motor coaches or rail.
