New High-Performance Wheelchair Securement System from Sure-Lok

BETHLEHEM , Pa. (March 2006) -- Sure-Lok, Inc., has introduced its first fully automatic, auto-locking, self-tensioning wheelchair securement system. Called TITAN, it features a visual locking tag for increased safety and distinctive blue straps for easy identification in the field. The high-performance system also offers increased speed and ease of operation, allowing operators to safely secure a wheelchair in under 10 seconds with just one hand.

The TITAN system features a bright yellow locking tag that is visible only when the system's retractors are in locked mode, assuring operators the retractors are not in the release condition when properly secured to a wheelchair. This eliminates the safety concerns associated with auto-locking retractor systems. Also featured are low-profile brackets and sleeker, cleaner retractor cases with stud fittings to attach occupant restraint systems. An S-hook configuration keeps webbing flat and untwisted when attached to a wheelchair.

The retractors are self-retracting to automatically remove any slack in the webbing after it has been secured to a wheelchair. Visibility of the locking tag provides assurance the belts are secure. Standard manual cranks allow for additional tightening if needed. With their low-profile design, the retractors fit under most wheelchair foot rests. Equipped with anchoring points for the attachment of occupant restraint belts, they are compatible with a variety of shoulder/lap belt combinations. The retractors feature heavy-duty, heat-treated structural components and chrome-plated metal covers for durability and extended corrosion resistance.

All TITAN retractors are designed to meet or exceed the following safety standards: 30mph/20g Impact Test Criteria per SAE J2249, Canadian Z605, National Standards for School Buses and ISO 10542 Standard. They also comply with 49 CFR Part 38 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 49 CFR Part 371.222 (FMVSS 222) School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection and FMVSS 209, 222 and 302 Flammability Test.

The TITAN system can be configured with comprehensive kits for installation in either "L" or "A" floor track. Also offered is the Solo Series, which eliminates the need for floor track entirely. The Solo stainless steel floor anchors are easy to install in new or existing vehicles without routing the floor, and flush-mounted fittings eliminate the accumulation of dirt and debris for smooth operation and a more aesthetic appearance.

Installation kits range from retractor kits complete with S-hooks to occupant restraint systems and Solo floor anchors. Also offered is a three-year warranty, plus a comprehensive training program.
