1.5 Million Caterpillar ® Engines on Road Today
ACERTT Technology Building Block for Future
MOSSVILLE, Ill. (March 15, 2006) -- By all measurements, 2005 was a banner year in the history of Caterpillar Inc. on many fronts, with more than 1.5 million* Cat ® engines on the road today, and more than 1.1 million on-highway engines shipped since 1995.
Much of this success in recent years can be attributed to the resounding response the company has experienced since the introduction of its state-of-the-art ACERTT Technology. To date there are more than 43,140 companies using over 322,000 vehicles equipped with ACERT Technology.
"Developing ACERT Technology involved a huge investment in research," says Jim McReynolds, general manager, Caterpillar Power Systems North America. "This technology was designed to meet stringent emissions standards without sacrificing performance or fuel economy, and to provide customers greater value now and in the future."
ACERT Technology has been hailed as a "revolution through evolution," designed to not only meet today's clean air regulations, but also establish the building blocks for attaining tomorrow's more stringent standards. Most importantly, ACERT Technology provides Cat customers with the reliability, durability and fuel economy Cat engines have been known for the past eight decades.
In 2005, J.D. Power and Associates awarded the Caterpillar C-15 for ranking "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Vocational Heavy Duty Diesel Truck Engines" in a study of 2003 model year Heavy Duty Truck Engines/Transmissions. A Caterpillar engine has ranked highest in the Vocational segment all five times the award has been given, demonstrating Cat's engine superiority.
The J.D. Power and Associates study measured customer satisfaction with three vital engine factors: engine quality and warranty; engine performance; and engine noise and vibration. To meet new emissions regulations, engine manufacturers had to redesign engines and employ new technologies-the study evaluated a mix of new- and old-technology engines, since the emissions regulations went into effect in the middle of the 2003 production year. The study was based on responses from 2,429 primary maintainers of two-year-old Class 8 trucks.
Caterpillar will unveil its ACERT Technology for 2007 at the 35th Annual Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) set for March 23 - March 25, 2006 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The show is the top annual forum for the trucking industry.
