hijacker's plan 'rudimental'", Las Vegas Sun, 4/29/2000. A sumari sword wielding high schooler hijacked a bus outside Las Vegas and ordered the driver to head for California. The student was apprehended and has been prosecuted under the USA Patriot Act. The children on the bus were released unharmed.
- Drama in Miami: Special Needs Driver Tells Her Hijacking Story , School Transportation news, December 1995, pg. 1 -- In late 1995, a hijacker commandeered a school bus full of children in Miami. The incident ended when the driver ordered the bus driven to his former place of employment, where he was apprehended.

5/14/96 -- In
May 1996, a 15-year old boy commandeered a school bus early one morning in Salt Lake City, shot the driver, and fled with the bus. After a high-speed police chase he crashed the bus into a home and shot himself. No children were onboard at the time of the incident, though several were waiting to board the bus when the youth took the bus. The driver was taken to the hospital with a minor leg wound.

- Chowchilla School Bus Hijacking, The most infamous incident of school bus hijacking occured more than a quarter century ago in Chowchilla, Calif. There, at 4:15 p.m. on the afternoon of July 15, 1976, three young men hijacked a school bus with 26 children onboard.

School Bus Terrorism Overseas
The
first recorded attack against a school bus in Israel occured on May 20, 1970,
when terorists fired a bazooka at an Israeli school bus killing 12 and wounding

school buses, though school buses there are not exactly similar to school buses
in the U.S. They tend to be public transportation vehicles that carry school children,
adults, and military personnel. Furthermore, it is unclear whether the attacks
are directed at the children on the bus or the military personnel on the bus.
At least three incidents of school buses being targeted by terrorists occurred
since 1998.
School buses have been the target of terrorists attacks in Thailand, Yemen and
elsewhere.
Not
even Canada is immune from school bus hijacking incidents. In April 1997 two knife-toting youths in Penticton, British Columbia highjacked a school
