Governing School Bus
Safety in Missouri

The following is a compilation of the legal citations of the statutes, rules and regulations governing the school transportation program in the state of Missouri. Also included are brief descriptions of the citations. These provisions are found in the Revised Statutes of Missouri, Department of Education regulations, etc. Anyone interested in the actual language of any reference, or for an interpretation of the reference, is encouraged to call the defacto state director of school transportation in the Department of School Governance at 573/526-6949.

Chapter 163

RSMo 163.013     Schools offering both kindergarten and transportation, state aid, how computed.

RSMo 163.161     State aid for transportation of pupils-powers of state board to approve or disapprove routes, or portions of routes-effect-limitations on use of funds.

Chapter 165

The school board of a high school district may form a contractual relation with another high school district to provide vocational education services for high school pupils not provided in the home district. State transportation aid is available if transportation is provided under the contract.
