YBSC Focuses on Best Practices for Student Safety The Yellow Bus Safety Council (YBSC), a new industry organization dedicated to student safety, has finalized its first production. The Council has developed a 24-slide Power Point presentation containing tips on how to conduct safety meetings for school bus drivers. Sponsored by the National School Transportation Association, the YBSC consists of industry professional dedicated to promoting safety throughout the pupil transportation industry. "The YBSC will develop and make available White Papers and other resources on various aspects of safety surrounding the operation of the yellow school bus," said Dale Krapf, president of NSTA. The safety meeting power point was originally created by Linda Coates for Durham School Services. It was modified by a steering committee of industry experts for wider application throughout the industry.
The council expects to provide safety information on topics of interest such as effective student management, human resources issues, developing school bus security plans, wellness training and more. Membership in the Council is open to school transportation directors, safety directors, driver trainers, risk managers, state directors, law enforcement personnel, and anyone else involved in student safety. The cost is $50 per year. Visit the NSTA web site at www.yellowbuses.org or contact the NSTA by e-mail at tmalambri@mindspring.com for additional information.
