To Be a Transportation Supervisor, Attend STN EXPO

The STN EXPO in July 2018 features a new half-day seminar that provides an overview of the skills and savvy that promotion to transportation supervisor entails.

The afternoon session “So, You Want to Be a Transportation Supervisor?” on Saturday, July 14, one of two dedicated career advancement offerings this summer, will provide best-practices for attendees who wish to transition into a supervisory role, or those who may already have and want to ensure they’re on the right path going forward.

Attendees will hear perspectives from four leading directors of transportation, including providing customer service to parents and school administrators alike, while also managing expectations. Other topics include creating, building and molding teams; proper communcation strategies to increase driver and attendent retention and productivity; principles of proper routing and planning; and managing and tracking data.

The facilitators of this five-hour workshop, which will include group activities and problem-solving, are: Chris Ellison, transportation manager for Eugene School District in Oregon; Pam McDonald, director of transportation for Orange Unified School District and president of the California Association of School Transportation Officials; Tim Purvis, director of transportation for Poway Unified School District near San Diego; and Alexandra Robinson, executive director of the New York City Department of Education and a past-president of the National Association for Pupil Transportation.

The workshop is included in full STN EXPO conference registration and is first-come, first served.
